Way back in 2010, I (Kimberly) went to the Ronald McDonald House New York to see the unveiling of their newly renovated kitchens for their residents (pediatric cancer patients and their families) as part of a blogging event. Former “Top Chef” contenders Dave Martin and Andrea Beaman were there doing a special “cook-off” challenge with the kids. There were kids involved, so it ended up being a “tie”. That memory never left me…
I walked away with two main thoughts. One: I’m so very fortunate to have two healthy sons. It is a blessing that I should never take for granted. Two: kids have indomitable spirits. You would never have known that many of the kids had cancer. They were playful and joyful and a ton of fun to be around. That is why I like about the Ronald McDonald house….they provide hope for the kids and their families during their challenging treatment times. From the design of the Home to programs that keep the residents entertained, it is a great facility.
That is why I was thrilled when my husband Reggie and our sons, Michael and Sean, decided that the Ronald McDonald House Charities would be the charity that we donate a percentage of our t-shirt profits towards. [After narrowing down our favorite nonprofits to three great options, we chose the one with the highest Charity Navigator ranking. RMHC has a 96.46 (out of 100) score!)
